Greater Chennai City Police (GCP) has launched ‘Police Drone Unit’ for aerial surveillance and quick detection of criminal activities over vast areas. According to a press release issued by the GCP, the project costing around Rs 3.6 crore was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu’s outgoing Director General of Police (DGP) C Sylendra Babu at Besant Avenue, Adyar in the presence of Chennai Police Commissioner Shankar Jival.

The move, which comes into force on 01 July 2023, marks a significant progress in the government’s massive drive against single-use plastic. New Zealand has banned the thin plastic bags commonly used in supermarkets for the collection of fruit and vegetables. Plastic straws and silverware are also included in the ban as part of the government’s campaign against single-use plastics.

According to a report, Bihar is set to overtake Tamil Nadu to become the highest micro-borrowing state in India by March 2023. The report published by credit information company Crif High Mark highlights the impressive growth of Bihar with gross loan portfolio increasing by 13.5 per cent during the March quarter as compared to the previous quarter. As of March 2023, Bihar’s microfinance (MFI) lending stood at Rs 48,900 crore, which was 14.5 per cent of the total portfolio.
