Tokyo Olympic Games silver medalist weightlifter Mirabai Chanu has won the ‘BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year’ award for 2022 after public voting. The 28-year-old weightlifter from Manipur became the first athlete to win the award twice in a row after winning the award in 2021 as well. The BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year Award was instituted in 2019 to celebrate women sportspersons in India who have made a mark on the world stage.

Renowned Bengali novelist and short story writer Sastipada Chattopadhyay has passed away. The creator of the famous ‘Pandav Goenda’ (Five Detectives) series was 82. Chattopadhyay published his first literary work ‘Kamakhya Bhraman’ (Journey to Kamakhya) in ‘Dainik Basumati’ in 1961. Chattopadhyay joined Anandabazar Patrika in the same year and worked for its ‘Rabibasaryo’ supplement before joining the Indian Railways.

According to the Indian Defense Ministry, this military exercise with the French Army will be held at the Pangod Military Station in Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala for two days.

SAMARTH (Scheme for Capacity Building in Textiles Sector) scheme is a comprehensive skilling initiative aimed at providing impetus and generating employment in the textile industry. It will be implemented by March 2024. The Government of India is planning to involve more industry partners to promote skill development under the ‘Samarth Yojana’. The initiative is part of the steps taken by the government to grow the textile sector from the current $150-155 billion to $250 billion by the end of this decade.
