HDFC Bank launched a SalaamDilSey initiative to show gratitude to doctors for their tireless service during the pandemic, to pay tribute to doctors across the country. Launched on June 23, SalaamDilSey encourages one and all to take a moment to acknowledge and celebrate the contribution of doctors and provides a platform to show their gratitude to doctors, who are bravely fighting the pandemic, at the risk of their own lives.

Former international footballer M Prasannan passed away in Mumbai on Thursday. He was 73. A gifted midfielder of the 1970s, he shared the dressing room with stalwarts of Indian football like Inder Singh and Doraiswamy Natraj. He played for Kerala, Maharashtra and Goa in Santosh Trophy National Football Championship. Prasannan was part of the Indian team coached by PK Banerjee and captained by Inder Singh in the Merdeka Cup in 1973. He scored a goal in the fifth-place playoff which India eventually lost to South Vietnam.

Top para high-jumper Mariyappan Thangavelu was on Friday named the flag-bearer of the Indian contingent in the Tokyo Paralympics, which begins on August 24. Thangavelu, who is defending the T-42 gold he had won in the 2016 Rio Paralympics during the August 24 to September 5 showpiece in Tokyo, was picked for the honour by the executive committee of the national body. “Mariyappan Thangavelu will be the flag-bearer of the Indian contingent at the Tokyo Paralympics. The decision was taken at the executive committee meeting of the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI),” Para-Athletics Chairman R Satyanarayana told PTI.

India’s super heavyweight wrestler Sumit Malik, on Friday, was handed a two-year ban by the United World Wrestling (UWW), the sports international governing body, for failing an in-competition dope test. The 28-year-old Malik, who had qualified for the Tokyo Olympics in the 125kg freestyle category, has a week to either accept the sanction or challenge it. The ban also means India will lose the Olympic quota.

भाजपा के खटीमा विधायक पुष्कर सिंह धामी को उत्तराखंड का नया मुख्यमंत्री नियुक्त किया गया है। शनिवार को बीजेपी विधायक दल की बैठक में यह फैसला लिया गया. पुष्कर सिंह धामी का शपथ ग्रहण समारोह आज होना था, लेकिन अब इसे रविवार शाम 5 बजे तक के लिए टाल दिया गया है। केंद्रीय मंत्री नरेंद्र सिंह तोमर, जो भाजपा के केंद्रीय पर्यवेक्षक के रूप में देहरादून में हैं, ने कहा, “विधायिका दल की बैठक के दौरान, पुष्कर धामी को उत्तराखंड भाजपा विधायक दल के नेता के रूप में नियुक्त करने का निर्णय लिया गया था। हम पार्टी के फैसले पर चर्चा करने के लिए राज्यपाल के पास गए थे। शपथ ग्रहण समारोह कल होगा।”

BJP’s Khatima MLA Pushkar Singh Dhami has been appointed as the new chief minister of Uttarakhand. The decision was taken during a legislative party meeting of the BJP on Saturday. The oath-taking ceremony of Pushkar Singh Dhami was supposed to take place today but has now been postponed to 5 pm on Sunday. Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar, who is in Dehradun as the BJP’s central observer, said, “During the legislature party meeting, it was decided to appoint Pushkar Dhami as Uttarakhand BJP legislature party leader. We went to the Governor to discuss the party’s decision. The oath-taking ceremony to be held tomorrow,” he said.

हिंद महासागर नौसेना संगोष्ठी (आईओएनएस) का 7वां संस्करण, एक द्विवार्षिक कार्यक्रम, फ्रांसीसी नौसेना द्वारा 28 जून से 01 जुलाई 2021 तक ला रीयूनियन में आयोजित किया गया था। भारतीय नौसेना के नौसेनाध्यक्ष एडमिरल करमबीर सिंह ने वस्तुतः भाग लिया। कार्यक्रम का उद्घाटन सत्र और निवर्तमान और आने वाले अध्यक्षों को अपनी बधाई दी।

The 7th edition of Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS), a biennial event, was hosted by the French Navy at La Réunion from 28 June to 01 July 2021. Admiral Karambir Singh, Chief of the Naval Staff, Indian Navy, participated virtually in the inaugural session of the event and provided his congratulatory remarks to the Outgoing and Incoming Chairmen.

विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन (डब्ल्यूएचओ) ने 70 साल के प्रयास के बाद चीन को मलेरिया मुक्त घोषित कर दिया है। 1940 के दशक के दौरान चीन हर साल 30 मिलियन मामलों की रिपोर्ट करता था। तब से, उन्मूलन के प्रयासों ने केस संख्या को कम कर दिया है। मच्छरों के माध्यम से परजीवी के संचरण के चक्र को तोड़ने के लिए देश ने विभिन्न तरीकों का इस्तेमाल किया। डब्ल्यूएचओ ने कहा कि देश को मलेरिया मुक्त प्रमाणीकरण देते हुए अब बिना कोई मामला दर्ज किए चार साल हो गए हैं।

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared China malaria-free, after a 70-year effort to wipe it out. China used to report 30 million cases a year during the 1940. Since then, eradication efforts have driven down case numbers. The country used various methods to break the cycle of transmission of the parasite via mosquitos. The WHO said the country had now gone four years without registering a case, giving it malaria-free certification.
