Amit Ranjan wrote a book titled “John Lang: Wanderer of Hindostan, Slanderer of Hindostan, Lawyer for the Queen”. The book is about the life of John Lang, his adventures and literary works. He was an Australian journalist and lawyer who settled in India in the 19th century. He fought many cases against the British and also represented Rani Lakshmibai in the legal battle against the acquisition of her kingdom of Jhansi by the East India Company (EIC).

The Jammu and Kashmir team of the deaf secured the first position in the World Deaf Judo Championship held at Paris Versailles, France. Rakshanda Mahek, who is part of the Indian team for the deaf, won the bronze medal after defeating the South Korean team in the semi-finals. The championship was held in Versailles, France. The championship is organized by the International Committee for Sports for the Deaf.

The seventh Indian Navy frigate of the P1135.6 class was launched at the Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad, Russia. The ship is formally named Tushil, a Sanskrit word meaning protector shield. Tushil will be inducted into the Indian Navy in mid-2023 and then its companion ship by the end of 2023.

The MP announced the Deepawali Day Act in the House of Representatives. The landmark law is getting support from several lawmakers, including Indian-American Representative Raja Krishnamurthy. Meanwhile, Krishnamurthy also introduced a resolution in the US Congress to recognize the religious and historical significance of the festival of lights.

South African playwright and novelist, Damon Galgut, has won the 2021 Booker Prize for “The Promise”, his third shortlisted novel, which chronicles his homeland from the late apartheid era to the presidency of Jacob Zuma. The book, spanning several decades, depicts the growing disintegration of the family as the country emerges into democracy.

Unmukt Chand has become the first Indian male cricketer to sign up for the Big Bash League as he prepares to join the Melbourne Renegades squad in the upcoming edition. The 28-year-old, who led India to the Under-19 World Cup title in 2012, has represented India A in the IPL, apart from featuring in teams such as Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals. Announcing his retirement from Indian cricket in August this year, he said that he would “look for better opportunities from around the world”.
