India’s R Raja Rithvik became the Grandmaster of Chess after crossing the ELO rating of 2500. The 17-year-old won the GM title at the Vezarkepzo Grandmaster Chess Tournament in Budapest, Hungary. Eminent Oriya litterateur, social activist and journalist Manorama Mohapatra passed away. She was the former editor of Odia daily ‘The Samaj’. He won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1984, the Soviet Nehru Award in 1988, the Critics Circle of India Award in 1990, the Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar Award in 1991 and the Roopambara Award in 1994.

In a rare discovery, teeth of new species of hybodontshark of Jurassic age have been reported for the first time from Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer, the Ministry of Mines informed on Wednesday. The discovery was made by a team of officers comprising Krishna Kumar, Pragya Pandey, Triparna Ghosh and Debasish Bhattacharya from the Geological Survey of India (GSI), Western Region, Jaipur.
