India’s first payments bank, Airtel Payments Bank also became the first Indian bank to launch eco-friendly debit card for its new and existing customers along with savings bank account. The debit card will be crafted from Poly Vinyl Chloride (R-PVC) material, which is a certified eco-friendly material as against normal PVC cards.

The bilateral naval exercise ‘Zayed Talwar’ between the Indian Navy and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Navy began on 8 August 2023 at Port Rashid, Dubai. Exercise Zayed Talwar will be a three-day exercise (8-11 August 2023). Two Indian Naval Ship (INS) ships, INS Visakhapatnam and INS Trikand, under the command of Rear Admiral Vineet McCarty, Flag Officer Commanding Western Fleet, arrived in Dubai on 8 August 2023.

In a significant recognition of the local craftsmanship and agricultural heritage, the Rajouri Chikri wood craft from Rajouri district and the prized Mushkabudji rice variety from Anantnag district have been given the Geographical Indication (GI) tag. These labels communicate the unique nature and unique properties of these products, and identify their places of origin. This achievement is the result of a collaborative effort involving NABARD, Department of Handicrafts and Handlooms and Department of Agriculture, which started in December 2020.

Asian elephant expert Raman Sukumar has recently been elected Vice-Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) during the election held at the United Nations Environment Program Headquarters in Nairobi from July 25-28, 2023. Sukumar was elected as a member of the Working Group II of the Vice Presidents. He is now part of the new IPCC Bureau which has 34 members including the new IPCC President and three Vice Presidents.

An exhibition titled ‘Mapping Tibet’ opened on Monday at the Tibet Museum in the northern Indian hill town of Dharamsala. Norzin Dolma, Minister of Information and International Relations of the Tibetan Government-in-Exile, inaugurated the exhibition. There are 42 maps on display showing the historical boundaries of Tibet and its political relations with neighboring countries since the 17th century. The exhibition will continue till October 5.
